Change June 2006

THE ONLY CONSTANT IS CHANGE

June 2006

The month of June still carries with it a feeling of bringing closure to a year. Princeton University and local schools will be having their commencements. The weather is inviting us outdoors (once the pollen is under control). Some of you travel for all or part of the summer months.   At PSRC, Evergreen Forum classes are over and some of our instructors take off for the summer, while others continue. As you can see from the following pages, we will add some special summer events, and invite you to come by for a class, a social connection or a chance to cool off. Most especially, we hope you will get together with friends to come out to the Princeton Cotton Club on June 17!

While there may be fewer classes and meetings, the staff will be busy planning for next year with returning and new classes, brown bag seminars and special events. We also expect to embark on the major project of learning how to use our new master data base and merging our dozens of lists into one for greater efficiency and service. In addition, we are looking for a new GrandPals director as Patty DeRuosi moves back to Virginia.

The PSRC board is also focusing on anticipating change by beginning a strategic planning process. Our last strategic plan was done in 2002, and most of the identified goals have been met. A healthy organization looks at itself, the community it serves, and best practices in its field every 4-6 years. How well are we doing? What unmet needs do you have or anticipate having? What opportunities and challenges do we face? What is your vision for a senior services program in the year 2010? Please let me know if you would be interested in attending a focus group meeting to help us look at ourselves. These groups will meet later in the summer or early in the fall.
